When An MG5 Transmission Warning Wasn’t Really A Transmission Problem

A warning light appeared.

The words on the dashboard were enough to worry any vehicle owner:

Transmission Malfunction.

For most drivers, a message like that immediately translates into one thing:

“Expensive repair.”

That was exactly the situation faced by the owner of this MG5.

The Problem

The vehicle had previously undergone transmission-related repairs at another workshop.

A few months later, the transmission malfunction warning appeared again.

Naturally, the owner was concerned. Nobody wants to see the same warning return after a major repair.

Looking for answers, the vehicle was taken to another large workshop for inspection.

The diagnosis was alarming.

The customer was informed that significant transmission-related repairs would be required, with an estimated cost of approximately AED 10,000.

For many vehicle owners, that is not a small decision.

Before proceeding with the repairs, the customer decided to seek another opinion.

Fortunately, a friend recommended DCM Auto Service in Deira.

Starting From The Beginning

When the MG5 arrived at our workshop, we already knew the history.

Transmission warning.

Previous transmission work.

Large repair quotation.

On the surface, the conclusion seemed straightforward.

But one rule has served our team well over the years:

Warning messages point towards symptoms. They do not always point towards the actual fault.

Modern vehicles rely on dozens of sensors, modules, wiring networks, and communication systems working together.

A single fault in one area can sometimes create warning messages that appear completely unrelated.

Instead of assuming the transmission itself was failing, we started with a complete diagnosis.

What We Found

After systematic testing and inspection, the actual cause became clear.

The transmission was not the problem.

A wiring fault was.

The warning message being displayed on the dashboard was the result of an electrical issue affecting communication within the system.

In other words, the vehicle was reporting a transmission problem even though the transmission itself was functioning correctly.

This is one of the reasons why accurate diagnostics remain so important in modern vehicles.

Replacing parts based solely on warning messages can become expensive very quickly.

Finding the actual cause is where the real work begins.

The Solution

Once the wiring fault was identified, the repair process became straightforward.

The affected wiring was repaired and the system was retested.

The transmission malfunction warning disappeared.

The vehicle returned to normal operation.

No major transmission overhaul.

No transmission replacement. No AED 10,000 repair bill.

The final repair cost was less than AED 500.

More Than Just A Repair

While the vehicle was with us, we also completed the scheduled engine oil service.

In addition, our team noticed paint marks on the rear fender area.

As a goodwill gesture, those marks were polished and improved at no additional cost.

Small things matter.

Sometimes customer satisfaction comes from solving the big problem.

Sometimes it comes from taking care of the smaller details as well.

The Outcome

The customer left with a fully resolved vehicle and a very different repair bill from the one he had expected.

More importantly, he left with confidence in the diagnosis.

A few days later, he took the time to leave a detailed Google review describing his experience with DCM.

Since then, he has remained one of our valued customers.

The Lesson

Cases like this are a reminder that modern vehicles are becoming increasingly complex.

A warning light can indicate a serious problem.

It can also be the result of a much smaller fault elsewhere in the system.

That is why proper diagnosis should always come before major repairs.

At DCM Auto Service Dubai, our goal is not to replace the most parts.

Our goal is to identify the actual problem first.

Because sometimes a transmission warning is not really a transmission problem at all.

What The Customer Had To Say

This customer later shared his experience publicly on Google after the repair was completed.
